Winegars First Store
Woodscross, Utah

Our Story

Winegars Supermarkets, Inc. began in 1917 when Thomas E. Winegar decided to give the grocery business a try. In a small building in the city of Woods Cross, We opened a corner store known as The Woods Cross Mercantile. For over 100 years, Winegars was family owned and operated until 2019, when we fully integrated our employee stock ownership plan (ESOP).

Today, Winegars has 2 stores in operation: one location in Roy and another in Clearfield. We are now proudly 100% employee owned and remain strong as one of the oldest supermarket companies in the state of Utah.

Our mission is to provide the freshest products at competitive prices, while creating an atmosphere that promotes friendly, personalized customer service and fosters employee pride in the workplace. Winegars strategically sources its merchandise from a variety of different vendors and suppliers in order to offer our customers fresh, quality products at affordable prices. We strive to provide our customers with an excellent in-store experience every time, whether they’re buying a month’s worth of groceries or just stopping in for a gallon of milk. We believe that our employees are our greatest asset and consider them to be an essential part of our team. At Winegars, we want each of our employees to be able to feel like a person with a name and feelings, not just another number on some big corporate cork board. We can only be as strong as our weakest employee, so it's crucial that our employees feel like Winegars is truly their store.

We recognize that we wouldn’t still be in business if it weren’t for the support of our valued customers, which is why our goal is to give them every reason to say, “It’s my store.” We make it a priority to engage in activities with our local city organizations, charity groups, religious groups, scout groups, and schools and allocate resources specifically to donate to charitable organizations. We truly see it as a privilege to help those who have supported and helped us stay in business for all these years and look forward to continuing to play this important role in our communities.
